What is Botox?
Botox is a purified protein, known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, which
when injected into a muscle causes a temporary muscular relaxation. This
produces an improvement in wrinkling on the face caused by the actions of the
facial muscles. Botox has excellent effects on frown lines (between eyebrows),
worry lines (forehead) and laughter lines (crows feet).
What Botox does it feel like?
The treatment involves a small number of painless injections of the Botox
solution into the muscle groups that are causing the wrinkling. The full effect
on the muscle develops in the following 3-10 days.
Is Botox safe?
Botox is considered a very safe treatment. It has been widely used in
the cosmetic industry for the last 20 years. It is used for many applications in
medicine including several indications in children.
Side Effects
There will be a slight discomfort from the needle entering the skin. The
needles used are tiny, equivalent to the breadth of a human hair. It is also
possible to have anaesthetic cream (EMLA tm) applied at no extra cost. There
have been no reported long term effects from the use of Botox.
How long does Botox last?
The effects of Botulinum Toxin last on average six months, some treatments
can last up to 8 or 9 months. Once Botox treatment has been established
subsequent treatments last even longer.

What is excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)?
People with excessive sweating sweat profusely, and some, in
severe cases, will sweat almost constantly. Normal people tend to sweat under
certain conditions for example when ill with a fever or those exposed to very
warm environments.
People with Hyperhidrosis - the medical term for
excessive sweating, tend to sweat all the time even without these trigger
circumstances. Excessive sweating may affect the entire surface of the skin, but
often it is limited to the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, armpits, or
genital area.
Excessive Sweating is embarrassing, and can damage your self
confidence, it stains clothes, ruins romance, and complicates business and
social interactions. Severe cases can have serious practical consequences as
well, making it hard for people who suffer from it to do simple tasks like
holding a pen, grip a car steering wheel, or shake hands.
Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can affect many different areas of the body.
Most commonly, hyperhidrosis appears on the palms/hands. In this case it is
known as Palmar hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis can also be a problem on the soles
of the feet (Plantar hyperhidrosis) the armpits (axillae), the face, the head,
the groin and the back.
Hyperhidrosis presents an embarrassing problem to those
afflicted with it. Shaking hands becomes uncomfortable, making business and
day-to-day life a problem. Patients report that they are even embarrassed to
hold the hands of those they love.
Hyperhidrosis is not a temporary condition. Many people who suffer from it have
suffered for many years, usually from adolescence. Hot or cold, the sweating is
constant.
Help is at hand to stop excessive sweating problems ruining your life.
Until recently, apart from risky surgery cutting nerves, most
excessive sweating treatments were often ineffective. For people identified as
suffering from Hyperhidrosis, Botox injections can help give new hope for a
normal life where their previous and more complicated therapies have failed.
Botox injections for excessive sweating work by blocking the
release of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine. When Botox blocks
acetylcholine the sweat glands reduce production of sweat - the required
result!
Botox is a life-changing treatment for those suffering from excessive sweating.
The United Kingdom approved Botox® Injections for excessive
sweating problems in 2001.
